Deaths in the Family

It is with great sadness that The Mansker Chronicles reports the following deaths in the family:

Stella Mansker

Stella Mansker died in Muskogee, Oklahoma, on October 9, 2001. She was born in Keefeton, Oklahoma, on February 5, 1928, the daughter of William Thomas Mansker and Cora Ethel Logan.

Gail Gibbons Mansker

Gail Gibbons Mansker, the author of Mansker Family Stories: The Early Years, passed away on March 24, 2001. Gail was the widow of Thurman Hayden Mansker, who was a descendant of Michael W. Mansker.

Samuel Minsker

Samuel Minsker passed away on March 7, 2001, in San Diego. "Downtown Sam" was a fixture in San Diego for many years, leading walking tours that encompassed much of historical San Diego. He was an expert on local history, and contributed to two books of San Diego historical trivia. He served more than 20 years in the US Air Force before settling down in San Diego in 1972. He was the son of Godfrey Minsker and great-grandson of Moses Lafayette Minsker (see the Descendants page).

Robert E. Mansker

Robert Edward Mansker passed away on December 22, 2000, in Exeter, California. He was the son of Morris Mansker and the grandson of Joseph Houston Mansker (see the Descendants page).

Jean Brodhagen

Jean died in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in December 1998. Jean was a long-time Mansker family researcher and supporter, and was the author of Recipes and Rembrances , the Mansker Family Cookbook (see the Sources and Bibliography page). Jean was born in Denison, Texas, 19 September 1921, the daughter of William Joseph Johnson and Dixie Lee Mansker. Dixie descended from John Mansker and Elizabeth Dugger. See also the Missing Manskers page.

Recipes and Rembrances is out of print and no longer available.

Wilhem Meinzer

It has been reported to me from another researcher that Wilhelm Meinzer, our gracious host during our visit to Neureut, Germany, passed away in 1998. I do not have the details, but I remember with much pleasure the afternoon we spent with Wilhelm and his wife Antonie in Neureut in 1991. It is with great sadness that I note his passing.

See the Neureut Controversy page and the photograph of me with Wilhelm in Neureut in 1991.
